The Blackbird workshops and retail space was set up by textile maker Maxine Sutton. Excited by Margate’s regeneration and looking for a studio space large enough to welcome others and communicate her passion for hand-making and contemporary craft, Maxine took a small market house in Margate Old Town. The Blackbird Shop and Studios opened in June 2010.
Blackbird aims to present a beautiful and inspiring curated retail experience where creativity and colour, decoration and stories, are at the heart. We believe in responsible and ethical manufacture, respecting one another and the environment. We celebrate and promote the work of independent contemporary craft makers, illustrators and designers.
